Prohibition was unpopular in its time, but the era’s cocktails appear to be more and more popular every day.

One cocktail, the Jack Rose, gained fame throughout the early 20th century and became particularly notorious when Ernest Hemingway featured it as the narrator’s drink of choice in The Sun Also Rises.

But with every classic now comes a twist, and at Betony they are making sure that the Jack Rose is better than it ever was. Their secret is to make their own grenadine. It’s an item commonly purchased, but it can easily be made at home with fresh pomegranate juice, and the extra effort brings new life to the cocktail.

For the full Jack Rose recipe, watch the video above. You can also read our story about Betony’s infamous milk punch in our latest drinks issue and get the recipe here.
