Sip (Wine) and Slurp (Oysters) for World Water Day

When we dreamed up the theme for our current issue of the magazine–water–little did we realize we’d be tapping into a topic so full of fascinating stories.  From sustainable squid to local sea salt and rain water harvesting, we found ourselves drowning in more stories than we could possibly publish.  But all self promotion aside, water is serious business.  According to the World Health Organization and Unicef, 783 million people (11% of the world’s population!) do not have access to safe water.

With that in mind, we’d like to draw your attention to World Water Day, observed on March 22nd (aka tomorrow).  Unless you’re currently busy developing plans for bringing safe drinking water to kids in need or getting your toilet to flush on rainwater, here’s one great way to have fun and make a difference. City Winery and Stark Wine are hosting an oyster and wine tasting, Sip, Slurp, And Save, tomorrow to help raise awareness about the world water crisis and WaterAid, an international nonprofit organization that has brought safe drinking water to 17.5 million people since 1981. The $75 tasting will feature six Stark Wines (Stark Wine donates 10% of its profits to WaterAid) paired with oysters from Brooklyn Oyster Party and other treats from the City Winery kitchen. “Sip, Slurp, And Save” is Friday, March 22nd, 6-8:30pm at City Winery.
