Meat the Mets: Thoughts of Beef and Baseball on Back-to-Labor Day Morn

Two of Paul Lukas' Favorite Things

With all apologies to Yankees fans and vegetarians, we’re very happy to report that Brooklyn writer Paul Lukas sent us word of his recent hobby: Making tee shirts emblazoned with a combined ode to his two loves, those being The Mets and Meat. Both fine things to ponder on the morning after Labor Day, a day where summer begins its slide into fall … aka serious baseball season. (The Mets play the Washington Nationals, by the way, at 7 tonight.)

Lukas tells he came up with the idea in the baseball-frenzied fall of last year, selling a few via an online print-on-demand shop. But now he’s working with Miss Wit, a local tee-maker, to have them on hand to be sold at places like Spuyten Duyvil Grocery in in the Bedford Avenue mini-mall Brooklyn and of course, The Brooklyn Kitchen at 100 Frost Street, home of the Meat Hook.

But for those of you who don’t often travel to Brooklyn, no worries. He is also selling them online right here. They’re available in white or gray, sizes M to XXL; $13 plus $3 shipping for the first shirt and $2 shipping for each additional tee, as you know you’ll need extras for friend and family-folk. And if just the tees alone haven’t moved you to open up your wallet, perhaps this bit of verse from Lukas will:

New York Mets baseball
Steaks, chops, and wings
These are a few
Of my favorite things.
