Last week aspiring food writers, bloggers, editors and everyone in between came to Brooklyn Brewery and got schooled on how to make a career in food media.

Our very own Gabrielle Langholtz, editor extraordinaire of Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan, led the panel and got some of our favorite food writers and editors to share their battle stories and insider tips, like how to pitch and trendy food words to avoid. We heard from Rachel Wharton (James Beard Award winner, contributing editor at Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan, and editor of Edible Brooklyn: The Cookbook), Annaliese Griffin (editor-in-chief, Brooklyn Based), and Gabriella Gershenson (senior editor, Saveur and blogger at gabiwrites.com).

Thank you to our participants, guests and the brewery for a fantastic event! If you missed the event or want to re-live it, check out our slideshow for some photos and stay tuned to our website for cool footage from Get Schooled: Food Media 101.

With an affinity for making lists (complete with check boxes), a history of smuggling goat cheese into college cafeterias and a never ending obsession to perfect her pie crust, it was only natural that Michaela Johnson would find her way into the position of planning and executing events for a food magazine.
