Ever picked up a copy of Edible outside the city? With over 90 sister publications from Austin, TX to Wasatch, UT, our sister publications chronicle great food-related stories from communities across the nation. To talk about eating and writing, we’re meeting up in Iowa City — the one and only UNESCO-designated City of Literature — next month, for a food writing conference called Eating Words.

Our editor in chief Brian Halweil is excited to present a keynote address about bridging the digital divide. “It’s a really interesting time to be talking about food writing,” he says. “We are realizing how big a part the Internet plays in people’s experiences of food.” He’ll be kicking off the conference on Saturday morning, and he’s sharing the bill with panels on sustainability’s role in food writing, the art of capturing nuance in food politics and turning blogs into books.

We’d love to see you at this year’s Eating Words. Tickets for the whole weekend cost $450 and are available here. You’ll have the chance to participate in a guided tour of Iowa City’s famous farmers market, visit their outstanding Szathmary collection of of rare antique cookbooks and manuscripts and hang out with food writers and editors from across the nation.
