The first annual Food Tank Summit is happening in D.C. next Tuesday and Wednesday (January 21-22), and they’ll be live streaming it so you can tune in from home. The sold out conference will feature speakers from across the food system and topics will range from food waste to workers’ rights in the food system. The all-star panelist lineup contains representatives from major non-profits and media outlets as well as students and activists. This is a rare opportunity to hear some of the best problem-solvers in the industry tackle issues that have dogged our food system for decades. Explore the full schedule here.

Our editor-in-chief Brian Halweil will be delivering the keynote address for a panel that focuses on family farmers. “I think a basic principle of a healthy local food system is resilience. That is, a diversity of producers all along the food chain, all located relatively nearby, tends to insulate that food system from disruptions,” says Brian. “Edible chronicles that sort of food system and the people behind it. If we do our job well, our readers will know, love and support these people who feed us.”

Other panels to look forward to? The conversation surrounding food waste and Michel Nischan’s closing remarks on the first day. To learn more about the summit’s speakers, read Food Tank’s wonderful five question series.
