Have you seen these food maps based on iconic foods from regions across the world? Or the Rothko paintings made of rice, adorably titled “Rice-Ko?” What about the art museum gingerbread houses that made the rounds on the Friday blog link circuit?

They’re all projects from Henry Hargreaves and Caitlin Levin, and you can hear them speak on Monday, January 12 at Cornelia Street Café. Their work uses food as a medium to shine light on our relationship with consumption. Hargreaves’ past projects also include “Burning Calories,” where he set fast food on fire, and a particularly heartbreaking last meal series called “No Seconds.”

Hargreaves and Levin will explain why they work with food and detail the history of their relationship and body of work. This event is the first of a monthly series hosted by Liz Stretch that will also include a talk by Marion Nestle in April. Bonus: the talk will be accompanied by a food pairing by chef Dan Latham inspired by the artwork. Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door.
