For all those who believe, as we do, that the taco is one of the world’s best foods and that this continent’s delivery of chiles, potatoes and tomatoes to world cuisine is one of the great leaps forward in culinary history, we present the Gourmet Latino Festival.

It’s a weeklong Latin food fest — including lectures, dinners, tastings and cocktail parties, most at Astor Center — of Peruvian papas huancainas, Argentinean empanadas, Columbian arepas, Chilean chacareros, Ecuadorian ceviches, Mexican tamales, Brazilian steak, plus everything good that goes with rum and pisco and tequila.

All this prepared by some of the city’s best Latin chefs (like Brooklyn’s Jacques Gautier from Palo Santo) and top mixologists (like our very own St. John Frizell). And proceeds to go to GrowNYC’s (formerly the Council of the Environment of New York City) “New Farmers Development Project” that helps immigrant farmers gain a foothold in the local growing scene.

(These are the guys who are responsible for bringing us our first taste of locally grown alache, pepiche and papalo! If you don’t know what those are, you should find out ASAP.)

More importantly, we have three sets of free tickets to give away: Two tickets to Saturday’s Daytime Feast on the 5th from 1:00-4:00 pm at Astor Center; two tickets to the Nighttime Feast there that evening, and two tickets to The Art of Authentic Cooking & Cocktail Pairing on Sunday from 3:30-5:00pm.

The first three people to tweet I love masa and so does @ediblemanhattan wins em!
