Who knew that the art of crafting whiskey could be so beautiful? This behind-the-scenes video of Coppersea Distilling gives you a taste of what it takes to get whiskey from farm to flask. Coppersea, located in the Hudson Valley, malts, mills and mashes their own grains, ensuring that every bottle has a level of quality that they demand.

“There’s something deeply soul satisfying that you’ve created something with all of this beauty and all of this complexity and all of this process,” they say, almost poetically, at 3:20, “the fact that it’s also going to make people feel nice is perhaps what sets it apart.”

When Marissa was a little girl, she threw her bottle and pacifier down the stairs and begged for "real food." More than two decades later, her passion for real food has grown into a part of her everyday life. Marissa graduated in May 2014 with a Masters in Food Studies from NYU, where she focused her research on food politics and food culture. She has taught children’s nutrition, gardening and cooking classes for the past four years, and she will spend the next academic year as a FoodCorps service member in Guilford County, North Carolina.
