Wed Nite: Greenmarket Sheep Farm Doc, Plus Shorts on Linklater, Fussel and Canora

In case you missed it, early this summer, food historian and bon vivant Betty Fussell swooned over sizzling steak at the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket and talked about America’s passion for beef. (That’s the clip above.) In fact, all summer long, Reverse Shot and Edible Manhattan’s Eat This Film!

screening & discussion series brought together cinephiles and food lovers–including filmmakers, writers, chefs and farmers–to watch amazing films and have a different conversation about what we eat. The series ends this Wednesday (that’s September 15) with Sweetgrass, a beautiful, tender doc that captures the connection between man and beast as it follows a flock of sheep through Montana’s dangerous Beartooth Mountains as they search for grazing grass. Filmmakers Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Ilisa Barbash will join Greenmarket sheep farmer Eugene Wyatt from Catskill Merino Sheep Farm for a post-screening Q&A to discuss the film and shed light on raising (and filming) sheep. Before the film, don’t miss the trio of four-minute shorts Reverse Shot produced with their previous guest speakers, including director Richard Linklater and journalist Eric Schlosser discussing Fast Food Nation at one of the last butchers in the meatpacking district, the above Betty Fussell clip, and chef Marco Canora sharing his love of the simple Italian peasant food that is cucina povera.
