Bay Area Delivery Startup Munchery Launches in Lower Manhattan

Exhausted your favorite Seamless haunts and can’t bring yourself to wade through the slush puddles to the restaurant on the corner? A new delivery startup launched in New York yesterday, and they’re poised to take over the city’s prepared food delivery market. Their model, which offers a wide variety of meals prepared at their headquarters by pedigreed chefs, has seen huge success in San Francisco; customers can order delivery half an hour in advance or preview the weekly menu and schedule accordingly. While their website is littered with “reclaiming the table” rhetoric, they do hit a lot of sustainable food high notes: they donate a meal to City Harvest for every one bought and their packaging is all compostable.

Munchery offers a sort of happy medium between services like Seamless and Blue Apron: the dishes arrive fully prepared and chilled, and families don’t have to bicker over restaurant choices. Their menu, which changes daily, includes vegetarian and gluten-free options, yet dishes are innovative enough not to bore the more adventuresome eater. Entrees range from $9-$13 with kids’ meals hovering around $6. They’re currently delivering in Lower Manhattan, but keep an eye out for rapid expansion.
