Enter Your Favorite Latke Recipe to Win a Breville 5-Quart Die-Cast Stand Mixer from Edible Brooklyn

This could be yours, if you win Edible Brooklyn’s latke recipe competition. Enter by November 1: Email your recipe, modern or traditional, to info@ediblebrooklyn.com.

In case you missed the call for entries in the current issue of Edible Brooklyn, we wanted to let you know that our sister publication is on the lookout for fantastic recipes for latkes, and there’s no reason the contest shouldn’t be open to those in the borough of Manhattan. For all you gourmet-minded goyim out there, latkes are potato pancakes, those crispy-fried potato patties that, for the third year in a row, will be lauded by the catering company Great Performances’ annual city Latke Festival and cook-off.

We’re co-hosts of this years, which will arrive at Brooklyn’s Academy of Music for a night of grease-splattered goodness on December 19. (The beautiful space sits nearly on top of every train line, so don’t let its outer-borough location keep you away.)

In addition to entries from restaurants around the city (Manhattan’s Toloache, for starters, whose Mexico-city born chef Julian Medina married a Jew and gave his jalapeno latke and brisket taco recipes for Hanukah last year) one of the competitors could be you. Edible Brooklyn is going to pick a winner from all the recipe entries we receive until November 1. These latkes can be your own invention, multi-culti, made with rutabagas in addition to Russets, or simply the family recipe from your great-aunt Gilda that you’ve always made. All you have to do is send yours, with a little bit about how it came to be, to info@ediblebrooklyn.com by the first of November.

The winner will have not just the honor of showing off his or her crispy creation at the event alongside some of the city’s best chefs, but will also score a brand-new Breville 5-quart die-cast stand mixer. That’s a Mercedes of a machine that might not help you with your latkes, but will make short work of those Hanukkah sponge cakes and coconut macaroons.
