Learn to grow us, if you win the New Amsterdam Auction.

Don’t sweat it! If you couldn’t make it out to the New Amsterdam Market’s City of Merchants event over this past weekend, you can still bid on their awesome Purveyor’s Auction until 10 p.m. tonight. Whether you are looking for classes taught by seasoned professionals on how to craft traditional foods or a home cooked meal, we think you should feel free to bid generously! Plus the market will open its 2010 season in the old Fulton Fish Market space on Sunday, June 27, and we’ll be there, by the way.

Over on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn The Commons hosts a two-day class on permaculture revolution. If learning lessons with a glass of wine is more your style, Pasanella and Sons offers oysters for the eating and stories of Manhattan’s famed “oysterdom” for the taking, along with wine pairings, natch.

Oyster farmer Michael Osinski of Long Island’s Widow’s Hole Oyster Co. will show off some serious shucking skills and teach you how to do the same. On Saturday, our friends at Les Salonnieres offer a totally different pairing when they team up with Chef Jacques Gautier and GoGoGoat to put on a six-course meal paired with six different dances.

Specific times and locations as well as ticket info for all events can be found on Local Gourmands or our calendar page.
