Everyone’s had it happen: You’re watching “Babette’s Feast” or “Julie & Julia” and suddenly you’re craving everything on screen. You glance over at your companion’s $8 bag of M&Ms and wonder whether a bite of technicolor chocolate would ease your pain or make it worse.
Recognizing the power of the movie munchies, the Food Film Festival screens short movies once a year while serving bites of the dishes on screen to the audience.
The festival’s ninth consecutive year in New York kicks off next weekend, and two of our own Edible Films will join the lineup on Saturday night. Our photo editor Scott Gordon Bleicher’s profiles on Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver and Liz Gutman of Liddabit Sweets have been selected for screening at “Hungry For Love.” The viewing will be paired with bites from Michelin-starred Uncle Boons and soul food from Manna’s.
The festival’s perennially popular “Food Porn Party” is happening on Friday night, with a self-proclaimed food porn star, burlesque dancers and chocolate sausages. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Saturday’s family friendly “Eat Your Movies!” event will feature cranberry scones and a healthy dose of nutritional education. And, because we can’t resist a good meat pun, we’re super psyched for Thursday night’s “Tender: Stories of Love and Meat” (Get it?).
This year’s event also benefits the Billion Oyster Project. We’ll see you there.
We’ve got a few tickets to give away, valued a $99 a pop — see below for details! Not seeing the form? Try this link.
