American Meat examines cattle, hog and chicken production in the U.S. and presents the viability of more humane, sustainable farming practices. The documentary surveys the current state of the U.S. meat industry and takes an even-handed look at the past and future of animal husbandry and meat production in America. Featured experts include Fred Kirschenmann (Stone Barns Center), Joel Salatin (Polyface Farms), Steve Ells (Founder & CEO, Chipotle), Paul Willis (Niman Ranch), Chuck Wirtz (Farmer), and other farmers across America.
Directly following the screenings, an eclectic panel of experts featuring local farmers, chefs, food policy makers, and academics—from both the conventional and organic sides of the industry—will explore the future of meat production in America. Special guests include:
