From our organizers:
Send up the smoke signals – we’re fired up to share final details for the 16th Annual Big Apple Barbecue, one of the nation’s largest food festivals dedicated to world-class barbecue. The 2018 Big Apple Barbecue will take place in and around Madison Square Park, on June 9 – 10, 2018 from 11 AM – 6 PM, with proceeds benefitting the Madison Square Park Conservancy. This annual event celebrating summer in the city is free and open to all, and stands among NYC’s most celebrated and highly-attended outdoor events.
The 2018 weekend will host fifteen legendary pitmasters – many of the biggest names on the national ’cue scene – serving up their signature specialties. New culinary additions to look forward to this year include a first taste of the sustainably-raised, single source sausages from butchering duo Jocelyn Guest & Erika Nakamura, vegetarian Southern sides, plus biscuits and cornbread, from Carolyn Bane and Sarah Sanneh of Pies ‘N’ Thighs, and sweets from local favorites Ample Hills and Doughnut Plant, along with the return of Texas’s Original Fried Pie Shop. Pair it all with a selection of craft beer and wine from one of the Beer & Wine Gardens located in the park.
The party doesn’t stop with the food – the festival also features a free, two-day long concert series with eight live performances throughout the weekend in the south end of Madison Square Park. Programming for 2018 will also include a Kid Zone dedicated to children’s entertainment and family-friendly activities with maximum fun in mind (think face painting, balloon artists, lawn games, and more).
True to its roots, the Big Apple Barbecue remains free to attend. While we offer two levels of passes for festival goers who want to make the most of the event, tickets are not required. Barbecue, beer, wine, sweets, and sides are available to all for purchase throughout the event, Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM – 6 PM, with proceeds benefitting Madison Square Park.
For those ’cue connoisseurs eager to beat the lines, a FastPass pair ($125) guarantees exclusive access for two to the express lanes throughout the weekend and includes a $100 value redeemable onsite for food, beverages, and merchandise. Friends of the Park who want to go whole hog in support can secure the ultimate weekend experience with a Big Rig VIP Pass ($275), which offers a FastPass pair plus VIP credentials for two for either day to the Park’s open bar “Pit” Stop Hospitality Tent. A limited number of both passes are available at bigapplebbq.org/tickets.
