The Xmas Craft Fair We’ve Been Waiting For: 30+ NY Winemakers at New Amsterdam Next Weekend

Prospective winos — or those in search of easy-drinking gifts — will be happy to know that the New Amsterdam Market will be awash in New York vintners (more than 30!) this Sunday.  That’s December 5th: We know it’s hard to believe, but that’s actually this weekend! Hosted by the New York State Wine and Grape Foundation, this special market event aptly titled “New York State Winemarket” will give you a taste of what we’ve been preaching about here — remember our ode to local wine during Eat Drink Local Week?

All are welcome to sip on samples from such esteemed vineyards as Heron Hill Winery (a Riesling king from the Finger Lakes), Sheldrake Point (another winner from Central New York, and a two-time Winery of the Year from Wine & Spirits Magazine), Macari (from LI), Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery (from the Hudson Valley) and even spanking new Brooklyn Winery, who lets you make your own wine, by the way, in their cellar on North 8th Street.

The regular NAM food vendors will of course be there to keep you sated, and from 1 to 3pm, you can slurp down oysters with your wine in a Wine and Oyster Tasting led by Jim Clarke (wine writer for Imbibe and beverage director at Megu New York) and Nellie Wu, manager of Brooklyn’s own W&T Seafood. But the only way to get in on this bivalve-and-terroir talk — and a plate of six with six wines — is to buy a ticket right here. The tasting is held right across the street at 224 Front Street and all proceeds will go back to the Market, whose last day of the season is fast approaching, on December 19th.
