With spring approaching, we find ourselves dreaming about non-root vegetables, berries that aren’t frozen and a 10-day forecast that contains zero ominous storm warnings. There’s no doubt about it: We’re ready to start growing some food.

You know we’ll be getting some dirt under our fingernails, but we want to hear from you. What food will you be growing this year? Basil on your windowsill? Tomatoes on your fire escape? Beans in your community garden?

We’ll choose one survey participant to win two spots on an Inwood Field Garlic Walk with forager Marie Viljoen on March 29. Marie has been growing herbs, fruits and vegetables on her tiny terrace for years, and she chronicles her experiences on her blog 66 Square Feet. On her Inwood foraging walk, she will bring participants through the Inwood forest where they will learn to recognize edible and invasive day lilies and garlic mustard.

Be sure to leave us your e-mail address below so we can contact you if you’ve won. Your information will not be shared or visible to others.

When Marissa was a little girl, she threw her bottle and pacifier down the stairs and begged for "real food." More than two decades later, her passion for real food has grown into a part of her everyday life. Marissa graduated in May 2014 with a Masters in Food Studies from NYU, where she focused her research on food politics and food culture. She has taught children’s nutrition, gardening and cooking classes for the past four years, and she will spend the next academic year as a FoodCorps service member in Guilford County, North Carolina.
