What To Do This Week: Give Thanks. (Duh!)

Setting your table with local produce is just as important as dressing your turkey this Thanksgiving, right? Check out Martha's skills at the table, shown here, and steal some ideas.

You can’t deny it… we’re all looking forward to Thursday, a holiday that’s all about good food… ahem, we mean giving thanks!  Yes, right, thanks. Well, if you’re cooking up your own feast, we have a few ideas to add to the table…. you’ll be thankful for! (Couldn’t resist.) First, throw some cranberries onto your table  (Martha did it, literally, just the other day) and no, we don’t mean by way of that one cranberry dish that’s artfully prepared in seconds with the help of a can opener… since we’re heading into the tail end of the cranberry harvest you can find them fresh right at city Greenmarkets and use them in breads, sauces, desserts, or even just as décor to impress your hungry guests! They’re tart and sweet and good, people! And stuffed with antioxidants, too, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Another idea, stop by Lucy’s Whey at Chelsea Market or in East Hampton to pick some American artisanal cheeses for your own table, or grab a gift box for your Thanksgiving host if you’re dining at another’s.  And while you’re in their shop, or on their website, check out what Farm Table Tastings they have in store for those less important Thursday nights in December, too.

On the other hand, if you’re not looking forward to washing any pots and pans this holiday, Savoy and Back Forty are serving up meals that will give you plenty to be thankful for and garner the Edible seal of approval.  A few items on both of their menus include Heritage Turkey and Pumpkin Cheesecake.  Check out their websites for the full menus and call Savoy at 212-219-8570 or Back Forty at 212-388-1990 to make your reservations.

Happy Turkey Day Week! That’s right, we celebrate all week!
