Win me.

Each week we’re picking one reader of Edible Brooklyn.com or Edible Manhattan.com to win prizes like charcoal grills, Breville kitchen appliances, a Bodum French press or even a year’s subscription to our own magazines. This week’s winner will receive this killer Fyrkat 13.4-inch portable charcoal grill.

Here’s how to enter to win this week’s contest: Tell us about your favorite local food artisan in the comments below before midnight on Friday. Be sure to register with a real email address so we can contact you later if you win. We’ll pick a reader based on what we think is the best response. Extra points for those who lead us to best–ofs we haven’t already tracked down for our online listings.

Last week’s winner is Savona Bailey-McClain, who answered our question about your favorite farmer’s market. She writes:

“My favorite Farmer’s Market is the new West Harlem Farmer’s Market located on 137th Street and Broadway. It took our community five years to get this market which operates from July to November. The site for the market is a triangle park called Montefiore Park that’s below the hill to City College. So, college students, residents and teachers in two nearby public schools can get fresh vegetables and fruit. Last year, there was some special events like hot apple cider and huge sun flowers. The juices from Red Orchard are a big hit too because the market is offering more diversity in our food selections. Instead of leaving the neighborhood, we can get good produce right in our backyard. And it feels good to interact with neighbors.”

Mimi’s hummus on Cortelyou Road is just sublime! I make my own — which is much better than anything I can buy already prepared because it has no chemicals in it — but Mimi’s is sooooooooo far superior that it’s in its own category all by itself.

Ice cream is one thing I’ve never tried to make for myself, and with Ample Hills on Vanderbilt churning it out all year long I won’t have to anytime soon. For me, ice cream is not a seasonal food, but a secret chamber in my personal food pyramid. The butter fat content is just right, thick, substantial mouth feel. Their flavors dance perfectly between wildly creative and comfortable and every time I turn around I have a new favorite. (Their St. Louis-inspired Gooey-Butter Cake flavor accompanied me while I watched the Cardinals in the playoffs last fall, but I’m digging their Chocolate Stout these days.) They’ve even been willing to pop open the door after they’ve closed to help me out.

Steve’s Authentic Key Lime pies right here in Red Hook Brooklyn! They do one thing, the pies in a few sizes and one addition of a pie on a stick covered in chocolate! I love the home made crust, the airy light custard that has just the right mix of sweet and tart. My fave part is the basket of key limes on the counter, so you can take one with you and slice it up on top of the pie before serving, excellent touch.

I love walking in though the little door that says PIES HERE and being transported to the feeling of the waterfront somewhere in southern Florida. the best part though is when you walk out with a teaser (single portion pie) or a swingle (aforementioned pie on a stick covered in frozen chocolate), you can sit on a bench and take in the NY waterfront off one of the many piers right outside the Pie Shop!
