Last week’s winner is Brooklynite Brian Stitt, who answered our question about your favorite food artisan. Seeing as we’re just about to send our Dairy-themed issue to the printer, we couldn’t resist his reply, about the wonderful ice cream shop Ample Hills Creamery at 623 Vanderbilt Avenue at St. Marks Avenue in Prospect Heights. He writes:

“Ice cream is one thing I’ve never tried to make for myself, and with Ample Hills on Vanderbilt churning it out all year long I won’t have to anytime soon. For me, ice cream is not a seasonal food, but a secret chamber in my personal food pyramid. The butter fat content is just right, thick, substantial mouth feel. Their flavors dance perfectly between wildly creative and comfortable and every time I turn around I have a new favorite. (Their St. Louis-inspired Gooey-Butter Cake flavor accompanied me while I watched the Cardinals in the playoffs last fall, but I’m digging their Chocolate Stout these days.) They’ve even been willing to pop open the door after they’ve closed to help me out.”

    my favorite coffee roaster is a portable one- the Love Truck that parks itself on Wall Street every morning. With oversized portions, delicious espresso, it gives you just one more reason to avoid overpriced coffee shops, and wait in line with all the brokers to take the orange cup of ‘love’ back to your desk. Try the chai latte- its a breakfast amuse-bouche
