Editor’s note: In celebration of our current drinks issue, we partnered with Tad Carducci of The Tippler, the popular bar located below Chelsea Market, to create custom, story-inspired cocktails. Below, he shares a liquid homage to fika, or a common Swedish coffee tradition. Read our full story here.

As far as I can tell, the Swedes are surrounded by beauty; just look at their land, cars, modern design aesthetic, traditional art and handicrafts.

I designed “The Silent Ringer ” cocktail to pay homage to another bit of Swedish beauty called fika, or the art of the coffee break. It’s all about taking time out of every day to share a good cup of coffee or tea with friends, family or colleagues. There’s usually a an accompanying snack and phones stay off the table.

We’ve taken the idea of fika and wrapped some of its traditional components into a rich and invigorating cocktail.  It’s a little sweet, a little savory and its flavors linger—hopefully much like any conversation or face-to-face time it inspires.
