O. Ottomanelli & Sons

This family-run butcher’s shop has been knocking around since the 1940s, and although the West Village looks just a tad different now than it did then, Ottomanelli is still your friendly neighborhood butcher. Four of the Ottomanelli brothers still run the store, Frank still using his grandfather’s 75-year-old knife to cut poultry. It’s a good bet you can find exotic game like ostrich and boar here if that’s your fancy, but it’s also a solid choice for grassfed beef, lamb, pork and free-range poultry, mostly from small farmers located near the city. They even have a Slow Food Snail of Approval for their dedication to the art of butchery.Francoise Villeneuve
