The motto at this tavern might read home of warm beer, lousy food and an ugly owner, but that's all untrue. The Waterfront (there's also one in Brooklyn) is one of our favorite spots for a beer (their massive list is always curated with care) and burger or barbecue, which the owner has mastered on the southern barbecue competition circuit. They make their own hot sauce aged in old whiskey casks, too. - Rachel Wharton
