Named after a Revolutionary War fort that was built in town, this laid back café-bar on the main strip of Red Hook, Brooklyn offers top-notch cocktails (both modern breakfast options and old-fashioned classics), as well as fresh-drip coffee, a seltzer staking its claim as the "Best in Brooklyn," and a selective, seasonal menu made with local produce. The décor skews a combination of Old American, Old World European and somewhere humid like the Caribbean, and the dishes are just as varied, reading like an homage to owner-bartender-writer St. John Frizell's many travels, including his 8-year stay in NOLA evidenced by his optimally-stuffed muffuletta. -Jessie Cacciola
