Bonnie Slotnick’s is the kind of place you can call when you really need to find an old cookbook your grandmother had but you can’t remember the title, only the picture that was on the cover. She’s a diligent researcher and specializes in books on etiquette, housekeeping, baking, Jewish cooking and the New York food scene. Call ahead to find if she’s open (the shop closes one day a week, but that day is always changing).  --Amber Benham
