This celebration of chili, beer, and sustainable eating will take place in New York City’s popular Chelsea Market on January 29, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:30 PM. Tickets are available at http://chilifest2012.com for $45 (chili only) and $55 (chili and beer).

As part of the festivities, ticketholders navigate their way through the market’s 800-square foot concourse, sampling chilis from more than 20 of New York City’s best restaurants and chefs (listed below and found here). The chilis will be tasted by a panel of industry judges including Chef Michael Symon, and the winning chef will receive the Golden Chili Mug 2012 title, a suite of kitchen appliances (valued at $2,000) from event sponsor Breville, and a $500 cash prize. In addition, there will be a runner-up prize of a Breville Scraper Mixer Pro (valued at $299).

The inspiration for the event comes from a desire to cook using whole animals, raised locally, and in a responsible manner. In this spirit, Dickson’s Farmstand Meats will be supplying all the chefs with 100% dry-aged, locally-raised beef from Wrighteous Organics in Schoharie, NY, as the base for their chili, providing a level playing field for the competition.

Among the changes for this year’s event, Samuel Adams and Breville have been added as sponsors. Samuel Adams will be providing all the beer for the evening (ID is required for entrance) with more beer stations than in 2011. The Dixons, a local band based in Brooklyn, will perform in the Samuel Adams Beer Hall throughout the event.

A portion of the ticket proceeds for the event will go to Food Systems NYC in support of their effort to build a just and vibrant regional food and farm economy, which promotes human and environmental health, and prevents hunger.

For $45, “Chili” tickets allow guests to get all the chili and live music they can handle. “Chili+Beer” tickets are $55 and give guests access to Samuel Adams’ selection of beers, in addition to the full range of chili offerings and live music. For an additional $5, guests can get a discounted year-long membership to Food Systems Network NYC.
