On Saturday, October 2 from 11:30AM – 4:30PM, Governor’s Island will once again be transformed into a meat-lover’s paradise. Welcome to Pig Island, featuring an impressive cast of chefs showing off their pork know-how’s accompanied by craft beer and live entertainment. (This event will sell out. Buy tickets here.)
Twenty chefs from New York City restaurants are expected to participate in a grill-off, including Mary Cleaver of The Green Table, Sara Jenkins of Porchetta, Michael Ferraro of Delicatessen, along with other barbecue masters from Cabrito, Double Crown, Paolo Santo, Jimmy’s No 43, and many more. Sixty pigs will be provided to the chefs straight from New York state farmers including Violet Hill Farm, The Piggery, and Heritage Meats. Other barbecue accompaniments such as corn will celebrate the height of the fall season.
For $75, ticket holders will enjoy a walk-around tasting from the expert chefs and live bluegrass music. Sixpoint Craft Ales will premiere a new pilsner at the event, and local New York state wines will be available (but may not be included in the ticket price). A section will also be open to the public with a limited number of sample tastings for those not holding tickets.
